One of my favourite shows on tv Greys Anatomy, has just got even better. The show never really had 'eye candy' for me although McDreamy & McSteamy were the best looking dudes on there. That was until just recently a new addition was added to the cast. Jesse Williams, who plays Dr Jackson Avery is *coughs* quite handsome......OK HE'S HOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!! Like a lot of people I'm sure, I did a double take, and thought to myself (or probably said out loud!) Who is that!!!?? But besides being good looking he's a good actor too, and the presence of him and the other new additions in the show was quite a breath of fresh air actually. And hopefully he will be around for a while, because it seems like he and Christina could have something brewing between them since their 'kiss'.

HOOT HOOT, BEEP BEEP!!!!!!

These are the noises of the train/bus/bandwagon or any other vehicle which carries around Twilight fans...Room for one more?! YES, I have jumped on, and succumbed to the increasing peer-pressure (mainly from Zainab and Rachie-Pie) and my own damn curiosity about watching the Twilight film. Now I was too lazy/impatient to read the book. So I skipped straight to the film, and what a film it was. Does this make me a 'Fanpire' now?!?!

Now we're not talking about ground breaking cinema and original, innovative story lines, but who gives a damn? It's a sweet love story with vampires, and no matter how old you are, you can never get tired of a good ol' love story. I even think it is my new 'romantic' film obsession. Now this has only happened twice before. Once with Titanic, and then again with the Notebook. But it is safe to say that this film is more than worthy to take the crown, and I see why it has stolen the hearts of millions around the world!

Now I'll admit that I was being a movie snob for quite a while and didn't think that the movie deserved any attention from me. But a dreary Sunday evening made me think otherwise, and after putting it on hold and watching nearly every possible movie that I have been trying to catch up on, meant that I couldn't put it off any longer.

For approximately 3/4 of the film I wanted to be Bella.....BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's that bloomin' Pattinson. With his broody sultry good looks, and just the sheer magnetic energy between the two characters was just too much, I think that the chemistry between the two protagonists is what made that movie what it was. It could have easily have been very saccharine, with annoying teenagers running around the screen, but it wasn't. In fact I would even compare it to the (HOLY!!!!!!)show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in a way that they were able to take a normal surrounding of a high school with young characters, and give it a sense of darkness and maturity that was very alluring(I'm all about mature films!!).

As soon as I finished watching the film, I hit up the web to clue myself up on all my Twilight info, Wikipedia, Youtube the lot! And now I can't wait to watch New Moon, which is coming out very soon. The trailer was literally too much for me! As I was watching it with baited breath I could see that the character played by Taylor Lautner (Wolf boy, and his stupid wig, which he has now got rid of!!!) is going to be a lot more prevalent in this sequel, and by the looks of it he's trying to break up the perfect romance between Bella and Edward! All I'm saying is that 'Jacob' needs to BTFU!!!!!!! and leave these lovebirds to it!

All I have left to say is role on November 20th !!!!!! :O

NEVER AGAIN.....PLEASE!!!

This year I have seen two films that absolutely made me want to rip my eyeballs out half way through them. Now I rarely see crap films, because lets face it, I have AWESOME movie taste and I can spot a flop from a mile off!!! So why did you watch these two horrendous films then, I hear you ask? BECAUSE I HAD TOO!!!!

OK, so I wasn't under duress with a gun to my head, and the lives of my loved ones weren't threatened, but I am a good friend, and on the rare occasion when a mate asks (demands!) to see a particular film, I am more than happy (whilst weary!)to oblige them.

Now the first rubbish one which I saw a few weeks ago was Final Destination 3D. Now there is no point even discussing this because I know that the title and the sequels before it speak for themselves.

But the unspeakable (but type-able!) mess that was the GAMER, with the 300 star Gerard Butler, was definitely on my top 5 WORST MOVIES I HAVE EVER WASTED MY LIFE SEEING LIST! I'm not even going to put up a picture, because that would be a form of promotion that this heap of mess doesn't deserve.

Now I only saw parts of the trailer, and what I did see it seemed to be an action, blow 'em up type of thing, and it had no elements whatsoever of what actually appeared in the film, besides Butler (and his Drew Barrymore-esque slanted mouth!) and some fighting scenes.

Besides Butler, the movie starred Kyra Sedgewick (Kevin Bacon's wifey), Ludacris, Michael C Hall, and whatshisface from White Chicks (urgh!!). Oh and former hottie Milo Ventigmilia, from Heroes, who is soooooooooooo not hot now after that whole, pvc/perv scene.

I don't really know how to describe it beside saying it was a futuristic, cyber-punk, twisted, action yarn, dystopian, S & M , mish-mash, one-scene musical..........of a film

There were a couple of credible actors that I can't believe actually read the script and thought 'mmmh!! this is bound to be a hit'! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!

And to receive the official stamp of my disapproval, I actually have to be knocked out to truly despise a film. Anyone who knows me will tell you that even if I am not enjoying a film I will still get my moneys worth and attempt to stay awake. But for the cinematic ventures that have absolutely no hope of grabbing my interest.....siesta time!!!!

I just watched 3 movies in the last 24hrs (ok so employment sucks, but at least I can catch up on my movie game!), which I enjoyed quite a bit. Three totally different movies but equally enjoyable. The documentary 'Tyson', about the former heavyweight champion of the worlds 'rocky' life. 'Let the Right One In', a Swedish horror/Drama which I specifically remember being really enthusiastic about seeing, but my 'besties' still saw it without me ............................. they must have forgotten (me being the insane movie lover out of the 3 of us?!?!). Then lastly 'The Dark Knight', YES I KNOW I'M LATE!! But I remember being on holiday at the time it was out, and I just never got around to it.

I rarely watch documentary films, the odd one on Channel 4, but seldom on film. Although now to think of it, I have watched nearly all of Michael Moores films, mainly because they are usually highly publicised, and controversial. Anyway I'd been meaning to watch this Tyson flick, because I had seen the trailer and it looked quite interesting, and because I'm a huge fan of the Rocky movies(how is that a reason you ask? boxing of course!!).

So the man has a reputation of being CRAZY!!!!!!!!!! Went to jail for RAPE, BIT a chunk of a fellow boxers EAR, tattooed the side of his FACE, BEAT his ex-wife Robin Givens like she was his sparing partner,and the list goes on.

Anywho the film is really eye-opening, and I came out of it kind of understanding why he is so, for the lack of a better word, crazy! He has had one heck of a life, and anyone coming from where he's from, and done what he's done is bound to end up like something resembling the character of Mike Tyson.

I love the occasional foreign film, and this was no exception, although reading the subtitles is a bother sometimes! (I watched it wishing I knew more in Swedish besides 'Ja' so I didn't have to keep taking my eyes off the screen, and missing little nuances). The film is basically a vampire movie about the relationship between a 12 year-old boy and a '12' year old vampire girl/boy!! Now I say girl/boy because my eyes couldn't help but be geeky, and look the movie up on Wiki (half way through), only to read that the book version elaborates more on the vampire girl/boy being castrated hundreds of years ago!!!! I know!!!! There were a few hints that I probably wouldn't have caught onto about the vamps sex if I didn't read the article. This then made me watch the rest of the film thinking, 'aawww he's gay, and he doesn't know it!', which is quite distracting might I add (I'll have to try and not do that again). Anyway the movie is quite cool, very eerie/creepy at times, but also slow at others, overall it's still a nice watch.

Now this movie had been soooooo hyped that there was a point that I didn't even want to watch it anymore. But once that feeling had ceased, I couldn't wait to see this instalment of the 'new' Batmans. And I had a lot of hope, especially after watching one of Schumacher's terrible versions 'Batman Forever' (which no Batman could be worse than). Now as I started watching it, I realised I could barely remember 'Batman Begins', the one prior to this, although I did recall the villain was the 'Scarecrow' and Katie Holmes was in it, but that was about it. Well in this one, it appears they have changed Katie with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Cillian Murphy (Mr Nice Eyes) has a cameo as the Scarecrow, and the new baddie as we all know is the Joker. Now seeing as I can barely remember the previous one, i'd say that this is definitely the best film in the series so far. And of course Heath Ledger was on point as the Joker, completely unrecognisable. Maggie Gylenhaal was just blaaah, the compulsory damsel in distress. Aaron Eckhart was also great as Harvey Dent/Two Face, and the ending was good because it left a hole to be filled by another movie. Although the film was great, it was quite long, and I did have a moment where I had to go back about 5 minutes because I had dozed off (which also led to my laptop dropping on the floor:O (note to self: NEVER DO THAT AGAIN)!! Oh and I did find Christian Bale ANNOYING!! Why has he got that stupid gravely 'I need to be serious because i'm Batman' voice. What to disguise his identity? Well it's totally distracting, previous Batman's Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, and George Clooney didn't do it so why does he? I think Christian Bale just annoys me now anyway since his diva strop.

........Can't get a song/tune/riff out of your head!!! 'NA NA NA NA HEYYYY GOODBYE'!! Well today's one of those annoying days when everywhere I turn, to every channel I change, the same bloomin' songs are on! Is someone trying to tell me something?!

Now you probably know that they are all bitin' the 60's song 'Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye' by Paul Lenka. Even Bananarama decided to bring the song back around in the 80's . Watch the Lenka vid below, lol @ what they're wearing?!

Now I was a Whitney fan like a lot of the worlds population, and yes I did kinda desert her when she went through her 'crack' phase!! But those 80's and 90's classics can never be duplicated, so I didn't see the point in hoping for a miracle. Nonetheless I was still interested to hear what she was gonna come back with!!

OMG!!Yes that is the 'diva' the 'one and only' the 'queen', sounding like she's got tonsillitis or like she had a really rough time the night before!!! That was cringe worthy beyond measure, and I was hoping she would pick it up towards the end and give us 'the note!!' but noooooooo,nothing, I'm sooooo embarrassed for her! Falling from glory is never a pretty sight, as this car crash of a performance demonstrates, and at least when Mariah had her meltdown, she still had her vocals in tact and came back on point!!

I mean c'mon, the back-up singers, and backing track were more together than she was!! CRACK IS WACKKKKKK!!!! GET IT TOGETHER WHIT!!

So the latest James Cameron movie (Titanic, Terminator), has been talked about to death over the last couple of years, and whether or not it will or will not be made. Another thing that has been a topic of discussion is the 'new' and 'groundreaking' technology he is using. Well based on this trailer it looks like a whole lot of CGI to me. I don't see what all the hype is about yet, and apparently tickets are already being pre-ordered!!!!! What the fudge!! People need to calm down, it's starting to feel like a Star Wars type mania is starting up again! Maybe the fact that it's going to be in 3-D means all it's greatness will be seen once your sitting in the cinema.

I think the last thing I remember seeing him in was the movie Panic Room (the one with Jodie Foster), and maybe a couple of his bands vids on MTV2!! Anyway, I'll just dedicate this post to him in all his glory!

So its september!!! wooooo hooooo, which means 3 weeks till my birthday!! and as usual i've been slacking on the blog duties! :(

So in the last couple of months i've graduated, gone on holiday to Morocco, left my job, currently looking for another one, blah blah blah!!!!

The US Open has officially started, so I need to start cathching up with that, plus i've seen a couple of decent movies in the last few weeks which I will chat about later.

Because of my slacker ways i'm thinking of bringing another blogger in, to fill in the big ol' spaces I keep leaving, and to hopefully bring something new!!! So let me get recruiting!!

So I went to watch The Orphan the other day, and the only reason why I went to see it was because of the actors! Now those who know me know that I'm not really into the 'modren' horror film, which are always really cheesy, and knock-offs of their predecessors. So as I saw the films trailer and Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Running Scared), and Peter Sarsgaard (Boys Don't Cry, Jarhead) popped up, I thought 'hmmmm', maybe this could be different!

So I was both wrong and right, right because the two lead actors performances were on point as expected, but wrong because the movie was cheesy and predictable, although these things aren't necessarilly a bad thing! So I don't want to give the whole plot away, but a creepy kid horror movie is always good thing, check it out!

Glourious Work

With great movies in his portfolio such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, the Kill Bill volumes, as well as the opinion dividing Death Proof, (which I loved a lot more than it's Grindhouse counterpart!) The genius that is Quentin Tarantino has done it again!!!! There is no doubt that Tarantino is one of the most talented and prolific directors in cinematic history. The latest release Inglorious Basterds, has been in the pipeline for sometime, with numerous script re-writes, unconfirmed actors, who are on and off the project. But it is finally here!! Now I had already resigned to the fact that I wasn't going to see this film in the cinema, mainly because my 'besties' (My best friends!) usually don't see what I call 'proper' films. Once in a while I'll be able to slip one in, in the guise of a superhero movie (Watchmen), or a horror movie (Drag Me To Hell), but this time was not the case(as proclaimed by my friends in a previous screening of another film when the IB trailer came on 'nah mate that looks dry!). So I knew I would have to watch it some other way! Anywho another friend came to the rescue and I was able to see the film, and thank the lord she did!

The main stand out performances for me were Brad Pitt, who is obviously a great actor, but again like with all his roles he is totally believable, and hilarious as the character Aldo Raine (especially the scene where they try to sneak in to the cinema using their awful Italian accents). Another great performance was from the guy who played Hans Landa AKA The Jew Hunter. Throughout the film his merciless, cruel and evil ways were portrayed so well that there is already talks of an Oscar nomination.

The enthusiastic director uses his identifiable quirks and techniques (the film is composed of numerous chapters, and the soundtrack is taken from other movies)to make this a great Tarantino movie. He was recently quoted as saying that he believes this film is his 'masterpiece'. This statement therefore made me believe before going to see it, that I was going to watch something mind blowing and exceptional. But although it was really, really, really good, it wasn't an 'oh my god' feeling at the end, or even an overwhelming sense that it was his best work. So in that sense I do see what a lot of the film critics are talking about. Although I would definitely say it's on a par with Kill Bill. Plus I still have Reservoir Dogs (I know I'm late!!) and Jackie Brown to see, so maybe either one of those could be my Tarantino masterpiece. But its safe to say that this is another accomplishment that QT can add to his list.

I recently watched two classic Brad Pitt movies, which I think are my favourites!!
Legends of the Fall and Interview with a Vampire. Buy them on Amazon if you can, for peanuts!!!

I have just come back from an 8 day holiday in Portugal with Miss Rachie-Pie @ Leopard Print and Lace, and Miss Hood and Proper! It was soooooo much fun!!! Just being out of London and being somewhere totally different was just amazing! I did think that NY was one of my favourite Holidays, but because it was so similar to London means that i didnt really experience anything 'new'!! Like Morocco and Nigeria, Portugal has lovely weather, beaches, culture, food and people!! and I hope that i'll get to visit there again soon!! It was also a cheap place (cheaper than LDN anyway) to live!! As per usual I over spent, on food and clothes, which means there were numerous trips to a Millenium cashpoint!!!

Drag Me to Hell????

Long time....no post!! Well I have been caught up in a whirlwind of assignments and trying to finish uni, having amazing vacays in Portugal/NYC, which means I have been slacking on my blogging duties. But seeing as this is my form of release, which none of my friends would care to listen to for long enough, and neither would I be selfish enough to subject them to a rant about films, means that I had to do a 'small' post about something.

Director Sam Raimi's work ranges from his groundbreaking cult horror classics, to his success in superhero mega stardom, then back again to his roots in a film I saw yesterday Drag Me To Hell.

Now this was much anticipated by me, just because I knew what Raimi had done before and although I'm not a huge fan of the Evil Dead films, I thought he would come along and show all these slasher/gorey filmmaker newbies like James Wan (Saw), and Eli Roth (Hostel) how its supposed to be done, but also bring something new to the game!!

I loved the Spiderman films, and always thought it good that a guy from a low-budget horror background, could make such great blockbuster movies. Anywho, I went in seeing the film not consciously expecting too much, but just to be scared stupid. But within the first 5 minutes I remember why I disliked the Evil Dead films (which I don't know why slipped out of my memory). The gory slapstick horror genre, never particularly 'got me going' and it didn't this time! With my bff jumping and screaming every 5 mins next to me, and her brother on the other side shouting 'oh my days, this is peng!' (East end slang for, 'oh my, this film is very good!), I realised that maybe I was subconsciously expecting too much, and in the end Raimi gave audiences what they should have been expecting when going in to see one of his horror movies, not a psychological horror that I personally would enjoy & which would make me sleep with one eye open. But something with 'big moments' intended to scare (but it was so obvious when they were coming), basically a simple minded horror film, or as the London Paper described it, a 'horror film for dummies'.

Although I wasn't thrilled, the film knew not to take itself too seriously,which was evident in the laughter of the audience, the odd person taking the piss and shouting out 'behind you', to an old lady drooling on your face, a dodgy Asian psychic, projectile nose bleeds!! Not my cup of tea!!!

Now to think of it, the only one who seemed out of sorts in the movie was the boyfriend played by Justin Long (loved Jeepers Creepers), I cant think of one moment when he was part of a gag, or had a metaphorical sly wink to the camera, it was almost as if he was in a separate film!

What the 'Fudge' Was That About!!!

I went to see the much anticipated 'Watchmen' the other day. This adaptation of the much loved graphic novel by Alan Moore, has been talked about for some time now, and been in the pipeline for many years. Now although I am not a comic book geek, I have enjoyed the graphic novels that have recently been brought to the big screen, in the form of '300' and my absolute favourite in this genre 'Sin City'! But this film has to be the absolute WORST film made in this genre, and definitely the most disappointing movie of 2009 so far! OMG! Where to start!! From Dr Manhattan's blue 'willy' flying about all over the screen, to the slow and sometimes dreary plot, to the soft-core porn scenes?

Although there are countless negatives that I could keep listing, I will say on a positive note that the film was beautifully shot! The film does well to convey an authentic film noir atmosphere, and the idea of the characters living in an alternate 1985, was also very good, spotting the famous people, and well known political leaders was quite fun for a know-it-all like me! The action scenes which I did expect to be outstanding, were just that. The whole slow motion thing was cool to see, I just wish there were more. If it were a person, the trailer would have to be put on trial for perjury! It's all misleading and false-truths! How can they make such a bad film look so brilliant? Other than all this, director Zack Snyder butchers the film! Actually now to think of it, I'm trying to understand why I have so much contempt for this film? I don't think its the film at all, maybe it's the comic book as a whole that wasn't floatin' my boat!

So although I wish I could get back the 150 odd minutes wasted on this film, at least it has set the bar of what a crap comic book movie is like and no matter how much CGI and money is thrown at a project, it still can go ridiculously wrong. Writer and Director, Terry Gilliam, who is famous for his work on 'Monty Python' and Twelve Monkeys', described the project whilst in development as 'Unfilmable', and I think he was write, this is one comic book to film project that should have been left alone!

So I'm about 4 days late, but you know, just coming back from New York, lost luggage, being in a comatose state for a while, all meant that i forgot to discuss my annual, non-guilty pleasure, the Academy Awards! Although i missed the live televised version on Sunday night, i quickly paid the Sky bill (with my overdrawn debit card) which always seems to switch off when my mum goes away, and watched the repeat the day after on sky movies, as well as the Fashion Police on E! and a repeat of the red carpet on the same channel!

First i have to get this off my chest!!

I CAN'T BELIEVE MICKEY ROURKE DIDN'T WIN BEST ACTOR!!! WHY!!! He has swept every awards show clean so far this year, it doesn't make sense, he was a shoe in!! I guess people were right when they said he pissed off too many members of the academy all those years ago... urgh Sean Penn... if he wasn't so self-righteous i wouldn't have minded him winning!

Anyway back to the clothes!

Angelina Jolie was stunning as usual, I'm so happy to see her finally wearing something figure hugging and something youthfull as opposed to a few of her recent choices which have been dowdy and only been somewhat acceptable because she was wearing them.!

plus her emerald earrings absolutely made that ensemble.....gorgeous!

Another person who always looks on point is Natalie Portman. Now i'm not a big fan of wearing pink, but this gown was so pretty and the detail on the bodice was sooooo nice that even i would put aside my dislike for pink and wear this dress.

One of the big winners of the night Kate Winslet looked as beautiful as always although this is not my favourite dress of hers this season. Her SAG award gown definitely stood out and suited her much better, her dress at the Oscars made her look much older than she is!

Tilda Swinton is one of the great actresses our country has produced, and although she may not have reached the commercial heights of Winslet, she definitely has the acting chops to match her. Swinton is known for wearing very Avant Garde outfits straight off the runway, and i think its fair to say her style is one that few people understand, and because of this she is a regular on worst dressed lists!

I admit it, even I have been one to laugh and point, as this androgynous and sometimes awkward looking actress strides down the red carpet.

But this time was different, Tilda looked alright! Wearing a Lanvin dress, or two piece (i'm not sure which), Swinton looked very put together, whilst still keeping her own style!

Lastly on the men's side, which doesn't really leave much to talk about other than there being the usual sea of black tuxes and the odd shiny lapel, Mickey Rourke is one that has divided fashion critics, but cannot be knocked for always staying true to himself. This time he showed up in a white suit which definitely made him stand out, with his usual bits n bobs hanging off him, pins, broaches, chains,and his staple pointy shoe!

New York Part 2

I'm still a bit jet lagged from my week of gallivanting around the Big Apple!! But without being back 2 minutes, I'm already planning on going back in the summer! :)

My girl Zay outside our hotel!!

First, our hotel was surprisingly nice!! two double beds, en suite bathroom, TV and heating (which was definitely needed). Plus rides in Papi Chulo's Escalade, when we couldn't be fussed to take the train to Manhattan

So beyond shopping and sitting in damn Shisha bars for hours on end, me and the rest of the crew also got around to some other stuff!! One being a night when we watched some stand-up comedians at the East Ville Comedy Club.

That night for me was one of the funnest things we did on the trip!! to bad we couldn't visit there on our last night :(! I was really looking forward to it, but guess what, majority rules!! So guess what beat out a fun night of laughs......THAT DAMN SHISHA!!Hopefully, when I go back to NYC, I'll be able to catch another show :)

Anywho, besides being picked off one by one by each comedian!! Who at one point got on my case about how I spoke to him, saying something about it being very 'black', and laced with 'attitude'! We also went to the famous Webster Hall, which i didn't realise was such a big deal until after we'd been there! It's basically a 4 floor club with different types of music in each room, and obviously me and the girls were Hip Hoppin it all night long, for a steep $25, but it was worth it!!

Well his name is Masahiro (Masa) Ito! We met him on two occasions while in NY, and @ first i was thinking, who the hell is this dude? On our trip we met a few 'nice' people, but me being so paranoid and pessimistic, I was always trying to think of what ulterior motive they may have had, but Masa just seemed to be a nice guy! Whilst eating in Majestics, opposite Applebees in Times Square, this random dude approached us and just struck up some converstaion, he was both sweet and intelligent, and I slowly realised there was nothing sinister about him. He is an artist/designer/sculpturoror(how in gods name do u spell it!). During our next meeting he gave us all a pair of feather earrings that he made, from feathers he got from Amerindians living in Montana......the stories he told were quite long but interesting, it was obvious he has lived an interesting life.

New York Part 1!

So I'm back from my week long trip in New York, and i already want to go back! 7 days was not nearly long enough to do and see everything, hopefully I'll be going back in the summer!!

So because it's 3 in the morning, and my jet lag is starting 2 wear off, i'll just briefly tell you some off the stuff me and my pals got up to, bar the minimal funds, and M.I.A luggage, New York was an experience to remember!

From a dead animal wearing Japanese Artist, to a balding Puerto Rican comedian who was deceptively youthful-looking , to a 'we're not Moroccan, extremely aggressive, so much so i wanted 2 spit in his face' husband and wife gangster tag team.

As well as sitting in a shisha, sorry 'Hookah' bar for a record 7hrs (i was pissed beyond belief!!!!) and watching the most dead horror film Friday the 13th, with the most live audience you could ever hear, to walking around East Village @ 4 in the morning because your 6 other friends all wanna smoke shisha but cant find the address, one word to describe that evening/morning, HYPOTHERMIA!!

These were just a few of the things we did and people we crossed paths with who definitely made an impact, mostly good!

I didn't do as much shopping as i hoped, which was kind of a bummer. You see travelling with quite a large group means 'compromise'! So hopefully if i go again in the summer, with a lot less people, then i'll be able to really do some damage.

Thankfully my girl Rach, showed up in time, and gave me and my friends the hook-up on where to go! 7 girls in Forever 21 for 3 HOURS! must be a record! My usual purchases consisted of a few 'Yinka staples', Cardigans, t's, hoodies, etc. But the main purpose of the trip for 4 of my friends was to get some trainers for some great prices! And i think between us we bought about 13 pairs! Yes you heard correctly US! Yinka did indeed purchase a pair of Nike high top,dunk thingy's! Not quite sure what the official name is for them (help me out Rach!) Anyway i originally wanted a simple pair, one i could wear with anything, maybe white with a dash of colour. Then slowly after my girlies around me stacked up on their 'Kicks', i realised that i was not going to find anyhting i really liked and would probably wait till i got back to LDN! That was until while shopping in Urban Outfitters i found a purple and orange pair for $39.99, roughly £28.00!

I quite like them actually, although they make my foot look even more gigantic than they already are, and starting to think i should have got a 7 instead of a 7.5. They might have been a tight squeeze, but probably would have made me look a little more dainty, ok who am i kidding! so although i have to get used to them, i still think it was quite a good deal considering what some of my mates spent on these bloomin' things!

Sell Out or Pure Genius?

So I'm a huge fan of Chris Cornell, I think he has one of the most... if not the best rock voices ever! (aah Jon Bon Jovi just sprang to mind, joint 1st!) The man could sing the phone book and it would be music to my ears! Until I heard the Bond track for Casino Royale in '06. I must admit I had never heard of him (oh the shame!)and to think he's been around for donkey's years. My only excuse is that I was still discovering all the great music out there, I still am. Anywho, I was familiar with the whole Grunge thing in the 90's with Nirvana, and I liked some stuff from Rage Against the Machine. So to then find out that Cornell had split from his previous group Soundgarden and had formed a hybrid super-group with members from Rage, to create Audioslave, meant I had to hear their stuff! And out of all the work,whether solo, or with Temple, Soundgarden, Rage, I must admit that the best stuff is with Audioslave! So what else is there for the king of grunge/indie/rock to do!

TEAM UP WITH TIMBALAND!

Now when I first heard this I did the whole 'what the...' 'but he can't...'! Then gradually i came to think that there could be some genius in this. Cornell at the pinnacle of what he does, and Timbaland certainly top dog of what he does, what could go wrong!! Now all over the net die-hard Audioslave/Cornell fans have been up in arms, callin him a 'traitor' or 'sell-out'! But what i realised is it must be harder for those hardcore fans who probably only listen to that genre of music to accept the change. I love my Hip Hop as much as I love my Rock, my mood can change on any given day and either genre can become more appealing than the other, so for me it wasn't such a big stretch hearing this concoction of flavours and styles! Cornell said in an interview, something along the lines of not wanting to do another record where he was in his comfort zone, doing what we all know he can do well, so he took a risk and for me it paid off! Although I have yet to hear the whole record, I have heard a few songs, and by far my fave is 'Long Gone'! 'Part of Me' is great as well, and has more of that Timbaland stamp on it. Overall the songs are not that surprising, in that you get exactly what it says on the tin, no funny business! Simply Cornell singing over Timbaland beats! I really hope this record does well and launches Cornell further into the mainstream, (which i think he is obviously hoping it would do, why else would you hire Timbaland!!) so everyone can get familiar with his music, because for me music is not just about the songs, but the voice as well, and his is definately a powerfull instrument!

Wossy's Back!

Yay!! The only reason (including Eastenders) to watch the otherwise dreary BBC is back, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross!

So Friday night saw the return of Jonathan Ross after his 3 month suspension, which happened following the whole hoohaa that occurred in the later end of last year. Which in turn meant that I was no longer able to enjoy my Friday night staple :(
Although the words 'mountain' and 'mole hill', come to mind when thinking of the incident, I can see, especially from Sachs' view, how bad the whole thing was! But everyone jumping on the bandwagon baying for Ross' and Brand's blood was a bit overblown and I hope this doesn't hinder Ross' performance, or make him feel that he has to 'clean up' his humour for the BBC!

Anyway back to the show! After briefly apologising for his actions (his sincerity being quite an odd thing to see actually!), Ross jumped straight in with his usual quips and classic one liners, and then revealed who was in his green room. Lee Evans, who for me is not one of the best comedians in Britain! And since he was first out I must admit I switched over for about 5 mins! Stephen Fry, a national treasure, who I never get tired of listening to, talked about his show 'Last Chance to See', in which he travels to various remote places around the world to find endangered animals. Then finally the highlight of the show, Tom Cruise! So what if he's a bit short! So what if he became highly annoying during his whole 'falling in love' with Katie Holmes faze, and I won't mention his weird erm.. 'passionate' dogmatic approach when discussing his pseudo-religion. But all that aside it was a great interview, Cruise has a great sense of humour, and doesn't really deserve to be slated in the media like he is on a regular basis. Overall the show could have been compared to a kid's first day back at school after suspension, slightly uneasy viewing, not knowing if something could go catastrophically wrong (what i don't kno?) ,but everything ran smoothly. :) Welcome Back JR!

Another memorable interview that I just remembered recently was one from Friday Night again, which happened in October of last year. Colin Farrell came on the show and was more fetching than usual....OK so he was lookin' HOT!! and I quite liked the long hair as well! Like I said before in a previous post about his long acceptance speech, I think this was the first time that I had noticed his kind of 'spirituality', and a certain peace that he has about him now. I was so used to seeing him in interview kind of rowdy and playful, and although he is still that, there was a subtle difference, which was kind of refreshing. Nice to see he's got his act together!

I'M BACK PART 2!

Righty Ho! back to some stuff that has happened in the last couple of months!!

There is always a hot new band or artist that everyone is listening to, but when it comes to music i'm really slow to 'jumping on the bang wagon' if you will! It often takes me a while to get into certain music, e.g i do recall saying about three years ago to a mate, 'Kings of Leon are shit!'. Look at me now eh! Anyway at the moment i am absolutely loving MGMT, Vampire Weekend and The Boxer Rebellion!

Mainly MGMT, who's album Oracular Spectacular, is just that...spectacular! Three words to describe them would be Psychedelic, futuristic, indie, pop, ok so thats four! Their music is fused with everything i love, the best bits from the 70's & 80's, and enough of what no one else is doing to set them apart. After hearing 'Electric Feel' I was hooked and got the album straight away! LISTEN!!

Alexandra Burke! The winner of the X Factor 2008! Thank god she won, and not that sorry excuse for an 'R&B' boyband JLS, or that Irish leprechaun Eoghan, uoghan, eogen! How the hell do you spell his name? I personally was a fan of Austin Drage! You know, the 4 foot something R&B/Soul singer! Oh, and Alexandra's performance with Beyonce....'wicked'! I admit I was a little excited at home when i knew Beyonce was going to be on the show, not because i'm and extreme fan of hers, but more to see what these two singers could conjure up,and the results spoke for themselves. Would it be a stretch to say that that one perfomance alone won the whole show for her..........

JOSH HARTNETT! Pearl Harbour (My fave!), The Faculty, Lucky Number Sleven! All great movies, but what would Mr Hot, I mean Mr Hartnett be like live on a West End stage? Well I found out in December with a couple of mates, we went to see one of the last showings of Rainman at the Apollo! Now although i've been to the theatre a few times, to see sum musicals, a few dreary plays for school. This I would say was my first 'proper' play! We had ok seats in the mezzanine, and a clear view of Josh! Now although my friend Rach thought it was ok to catch some z's during the production, I decided to stay alert and engrossed in this adaptation of the 1980's film starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. Overall I thought it was quite good, a little slow towards the end but the 2 hour duration did go by quicker than expected, plus a little bit of flesh exhibited by Hartnett (AKA my future husband if Caleb Followill is taken!) was a highlight! :)

Again, to reiterate what i mentioned before with the 'being late' with stuff!! I have now decided that I will now and forever continue to watch The Hills! Like a lot of people who were not hooked I thought it was a load of crap that MTV decided to make, due to a lack of ideas for truly great shows! But now after watching one episode, the drama is addictive, and yes it does all seem a little scripted and posed at some moments but WHO CARES! it's one guilty pleasure that i think everyone should have, and it also helps that they have a plethora of HOT! Californian dudes, waltzing around looking.......Hot!! But top dog for sure would be Audrina's serious eye candy of a boyfriend Justin Bobby! Now i don't know about you but his attitude and behaviour towards Audrina kinda stinks, but lookin like that i'd probably keep takin him back too!! So as long as they keep bringin' the drama, and episodes featuring Justin! I'll keep tunin' in!

Lady GaGa is a HOT MESS!! Sorry to steal my favourite Comedienne Chelsea Handler's saying but it's true! Yes, 'Just Dance' was a great song and it got her lots of recognition world wide, as well as the current No.1 spot on the charts in the UK! But there's something 'tacky' about her, to be honest i like her style and what she's trying to do, but recent pictures of her performing on stage with a man's head buried in her crotch really put me off, oh! and her prancing around London with granny knickers and tights (tights over the knickers!, just made me think eeew! No way she wasn't cold in these sub-zero temperatures, and all you fashionistas out there don't gimme that crap about 'sacrifice' and doing anything to look great! Or is seeking out Hypothermia the new cool thing to do now?

Movies, Movies, Movies!!

So my main love is movies, there aren't enough hours in the day to get through some of the greats but I'm getting there!

Recently I watched Taxi Driver (I know pretty late aren't I)and Citizen Kane, which is said by some to be the greatest film of all time! So my expectations were high right? And what a big fall it was when i realised that it was probably the worst film i had ever seen, I know! blasphemy to all you film boffs, but seriously, I think that it was great for that era and a certain period of time in film that I'm not that big a fan of! The whole thing just went right over my head, not interesting at all! But since i've purchased it on dvd, i'll give it a couple of years and try sitting through it again! Taxi Driver, again hyped as one of DeNiro's best, and i would say it's definitely in his top 5, but no where near as good as 'Heat' or 'Goodfellas'! Although Scorsese is one of my favourite directors, so it was nice to see some of his work before 'Goodfellas'!

In the past year though I have seen a lot of films, to many to remember at this moment in time, so i will go with the most recent, and the ones that had the most impact!

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

'Long gone were the glory days of Brad Pitt's excellence', I had been thinking of late, some of my absolutes favourites are, Interview with a Vampire, Se7en, Legends of the Fall, and his last work of genius Fight Club! That was until I watched this film! yes it's a gobfull, but don't let the long-arse title put you off. This film was absolutely brilliant, and I'd definitely recommend not only Pitt fans to see it, but everyone who loves a genuinely good film. A drama/western, tale of betrayal and deceit, Jesse James, was described in history as a 'Robin Hood' type character, and although he committed numerous crimes, and murders, he is still thought in some ways as an anti-hero, especially in the way he is conveyed in the film, all our ill-will and dislike is turned on Casey Afflecks character, Robert Ford. So although I'd love for Pitt to go back to portraying these heartthrob characters, in sweeping epics like 'Legends of the Fall', I have come to accept that with his age, his choice in film roles has matured, and he is becoming more select in what he chooses, although the ratio of good and bad films is tipping in the wrong direction, THIS IS A MUST SEE!

Che: part 1

Oh lord have mercy! Benicio del Toro, Steven Soderbergh! I thought was a recipe for greatness, but watching this film proved other wise. Not to mention it took everything in my power to keep my eyes open (Staring widely every couple of minutes, and tapping your foot constantly does the job). del Toro was great in 'The Usual Suspects' and 'Sin City', but this film just didnt do it for me! It was long, uneventful, and just dull! Pushing two and a half hours, was license for Soderbergh to make something enthralling, something audiences would want to see again, but i know I'm definitely not watching part 2! This film is for those who are either super fans of Steven Soderbergh, or want a history lesson on what went down in Cuba, 50 odd years ago in the revolution! Sorry Soderbergh better luck next time!

I'M BACK!!! (for now at least!) PART 1

OMG!! i'm a terrible journalist, a lazy one to be more precise!! i haven't written a damn thing since my birthday! well i suppose i will just have to make up for lost time! Sorry but none of this is going to be in chronological order, it gonna be difficult to recall any that was interesting , especially in the last part of 2008!!

First up! The Golden Globes!! Anyone who knows me, knows that i am an award show fanatic!! every year, i drug my self with whatever i can find to keep myself awake!! The award season in the US is the epitome of excitement for me!! The stars, the red carpet, the ghastly acceptance speeches, all this is worth staying up for, to the early hours of the morning! and this year was no different!

First up was QUEEN of just about everything in my eyes, Jennifer Lopez, opened the show handing out the first award! With an eye popping dress (especially 4 someone who popped out twins not too long ago)reminiscent of that '97 or whenever it was green Versace dress!! The woman looked absolutely STUNNING!! For me she can do nothing wrong!!

Kate Winslet, who was the big winner of the night! She got two awards for The Reader and Revolutionary Road, which i have yet to see (slap myself on the wrist). Anyway, i wasn't expecting her 2 b such a blubbering mess!! i know she has been nominated for every award under the sun, and never wins. But yet i thought the whole English 'stiff upper lip' thing would take over and she would pull herself together, but she didn't! Although repeatedly telling herself to 'gather', (which i did end up shouting at the TV because she clearly wasnt), Kate then began on a 5/10 mins thank you speech, which although annoying at first did turn to endearing, as she blubbed how much she'd loved Leo DiCaprio for 15 years (aaaaah!! Jack!!)Then it swiftly turned annoying again, as the minutes started to tick by, whilst she thanked her make-up artist, her great aunt, her cat & dog, the man who drove her in a cab to work one day!!! All bitchyness aside I still love her as an actress, so GO KATE! (Just make sure if you win an Oscar, u turn it down a notch or two!)

Then another embarrassingly long speech by Irish hottie Colin Farrel, who appears to have gone all spiritual on us with his new found sobriety, and Sasha B Cohen's (Borat) crinnnnnge worthy attempt @ trying 2 crack a few jokes! omg!, Ali G dressed like a normal person! trying to be comedic? It was a HUGE mistake! and u could tell by the sullen faces in the audience :(

Lastly Mickey Rourke!! The comeback kid (or 50 odd year old man!) of recent years, forget Britney Spears, or whoever else has had a sob story about how they tried 2 drag themselves out of the gutter! Old Rourke has had a hell of a tough time, the amount of lows this man has hit, would even make Britney thank god for the last two years of her colossal sham of a life! From Drug abuse, losing money left, right and centre, wife jumping ship, and becoming a general pariah in Hollywood, this icon of the 80's (Angel Heart, 9 1/2 Weeks) has finally got the recognition he deserves! now again i haven't seen The Wrestler, but if reviews are anything to go by, i'll b checkin it out as soon as it's released! Although the dude looked a HOT MESS!! that is all put 2 one side when u consider his story. And again with the LONG SPEECHES! (to which by this time they started playing music, 2 chase ppl off the)stage). But like kate i'll look past the cringy-speech, and just say i'm happy that he's finally gettin his!

I have now realised it is 5:30 am!! and i have Uni in about 6 hrs, so my arse needs 2catch sum z's!

September 22nd!

So this year has gone by very quickly so far! one reason for me feeling this way is that i have already reached my 21st birthday today! (happy birthday 2 me!!), its also the autumn equinox, on this exact day every year, so I'm feeling very spiritual and one with myself today, autumn is my favourite season, and it gave me great pleasure 2 c as i was strolling past Victoria park today, that the autumn leaves have begun to fall, and a see of brown leaves r beginning 2 cover the green grass.

So no big extravagant celebration 2day, anyone who knows me, knows i cant take a lot of fuss being made, although an unexpected surprise did occur @ work 2day! the grazing crew did spring a fast 1, by turning of the kitchen lights, & all begun singing a chorus of Happy Birthday, whilst placing a nice choc cake in front of me!! first thought was omg, try n look really genuine n grateful, cos although i am inside, my face often doesn't convey those feelings, so a few 'awwws', n 'u guys', helped me in that area, secondly i couldn't help but laugh inside at how many time in one year i had actually had this exact same cake, which was obviously from tesco!! mums b day, bruvs b day! n now mine!!

My summer filled with work, work, and more work! as well as the odd holiday of 2 Nigeria and Morocco!! but just as i have been getting back into the swing of things at work, now is the time 2 get ready 2 go back 2 good ol' uni!!! *sighs* back to juggling,lectures, seminars, assignments, work, and squeezing in a social life, seems tiresome, and I'm starting to reallllly look forward 2 the day when i no longer have 2 study and can just earn money, 2 go travelling n stuff!!

A yearly tradition that i always seem to engage in is riding my bike around autumn time, the light,cool breeze and the space of time between the holidays ending and uni starting makes me want to just ride around east London!! but since my bruv broke my bike last year, and his one is now chained outside our flat, with no one knowing where the key is means that the week after nxt (when i get my student monies) i will purchase myself a brand new bike. cant wait!!!!

OMG!!! So i have been away for 3 weeks in Morocco with my best girlies (shout out 2 Zay n Nadz!!!!. And for those 3 weeks although they were wicked, i feel i have been completely oblivious to what has been going on in the world of music and film, and actually the world in general!!!

Brangelina had their kids, Rafael Nadal is now no.1 in the world and the Kings of Leon have announced the date for thei new album!!!!!!!!!

1st off, i didnt even know they had a song out until the other day while i was completing another monotonous day at work, when i heard the unmistakable voice of Caleb, to which i then sprinted into the kitchen where the over-priviledged chefs in the kitchen were enjoying the radio on @ full blast!!!! So as i now realised that the Kings were back in business, i went straight home onto the internet and listened to 3 of their latest offerings 'Crawl', 'Manhattan', and 'Sex On Fire'. The latter being my absolute fave!!!! Calebs voice (without trying 2 sound to excitable) is absolutetly hooooooooooooooooot!!!! In other words he could sing the Yellow Pages and still kill it!!

I could go on for ages but i won't as u probably have guessed i am obsessed with this band, and i cannot wait for their 4th album release Only By The Night!! which is release only on my bloomin' birthday!!!! ooooh i can't wait,now my mates no what to get me if they are lacking ideas for prezzies!!!

Ok so i love music, not too fussy about genres, just as long as it sounds great, or as long as i can bust a move 2 it then i'm all good!!! So whilst searching around on youtube @ about 3 in the morning!, looking 4 Jools Holland episodes that i'd missed (big fan!) i stumbled across some live performances from the Kings of Leon!! now i was fairly familiar with the band, and as i recall i heard some of there stuff a few years back n frankly thought it was SHIT!! but this time round, being a lil' older n wiser i took the time out to listen to their stuff, and it was absolutely great!!! OMG!! i could not get 'On Call' outta my head 4 weeks! So me being me, with my tendencies to impulse buy, and my un-savvyness (thats right,new word!) ways with money, i decided to buy their whole back catalogue of Amazon, which is only three albums, Youth and Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak, and Because of the Times! as well as a few EP's! All three are absolutely wicked albums, even for those who aren't really into the whole indie-rock thing, cannot deny the catchy-ness and genius of songs like, 'On Call', 'Charmer' and 'Four Kicks'!!! In their early stages of being a group and releasing their 1st album, the band had a very questionable, image and fashion sense!! One comparison that comes 2 mind is of a throwback to the seventies, long-feathered hair, and handle-bar moustaches. But besides looking like they just stepped out of Woodstock, the bands style was refreshing, raw, and very southern (they are from Nashville, Tennessee)!!

Now with their latest release in '07 Because of the Times, the Kings came out with a much slicker (and hotter) image, frontman Caleb Followill chopped of those damn annoying locks that he often let his ears peek out through, and now looks uber hotttt!! And evidently, their sound has evolved, less of the southern drawl, n bad clothes, but more clean cut, and stylised. But however they look and what ever sound they pick for their next record, i can now say that they are definately the kings of my music collection at the moment.

No Country For Anyone Who Wants To STAY AWAKE!

Ok! So i'm an avid movie goer, and I like to watch all types of movies, no discrimination in my corner. So when all the buzz came around 4 these 'Oscar' movies (Juno, There Will Be Blood, La Vie En Rose, No Country...), I thought to myself like I do every year, I must take time to c them all!! So the latest offering from the Coen brothers, ‘No Country For Old Men’ was my next stop! First, i'm ashamed 2 say as a movie geek, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE OF THEIR FILMS BEFORE(ok maybe a brief glimpse at Fargo). But anywho big shock horror, especially because they’re supposed to be one of the best in the biz . So going in I didn’t know what to expect, but as 1st impressions go, if these are the kinds of films they have been dishing out every other year, then i can sleep tight at night knowing that i haven't missed out on a mind blowing experience. Now it wasn't all bad, that Javier Bardem dude was very good, and convincing as the sociopathic killer 'Chigurh', (sounds exactly like ‘sugar’) as well as good performances from Josh Brolin, and slight comic relief added by Tommy Lee Jones, but other than this, i found the film extremely long and drawn out (& i luv long/drawn out films, just long/drawn out interesting 1's!), with at times dialogue that made you just want to shout at the screen for them to 'Shut Up! and get on with it’. I can c what the Coens where trying to do, break the mould, march to the beat of their own drum, especially with their unusual, and in my opinion ridiculous ending, but although the cool calm and collected duo, always emphasise, their love for movie making, and imply that they are not in it for the accolades, this movie throughout its duration kept making me think 'oh they so want a damn Oscar!'. I mean after all these are the kinds of films that the academy goes for, slightly gritty, quirky dramas, that may not have had much commercial success. Overall i think the way in which the film was shot was ok, it was just a matter of the script and the way the book adaptation was put onto screen, having said that and not read the book myself ( i know slight contradiction again, but from what I‘ve heard the books really good!) i do think that the story had potential to be so much more engaging, and perhaps a better and more satisfying end, than just cutting out mid-speech from Tommy Lee Jones‘ character, which you were probably half asleep through anyway!
